James “Jim” Charles Fishback

James “Jim” Charles Fishback, 63, of Postville, Iowa passed away Friday, February 6, 2026 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Jim was born July 10, 1962 to Charles and Jean “Ginger” (Schmitt) Fishback in Postville, Iowa. He graduated from Postville High School with the class of 1981.
On April 8, 1995, Jim was united in marriage with Brenda (Hemry) Schultz at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union, Brenda brought three children, Randal, Shawn and Derek and together they had a daughter, Alanda.
Throughout the years, Jim worked a variety of laboring jobs in Colorado and Texas, concrete work around the Postville area and also worked at Atwood/Dura in West Union. He was currently working at Norplex/Micarta in Postville, where he had been employed for over 22 years. Jim had a passion for hunting and enjoyed going out west to hunt mule deer and elk. His greatest love was spending time with his family.
Jim is survived by his wife, Brenda Fishback; daughter, Alanda Blackburn (Colten); step-sons, Randal (Morgan) Schultz, Shawn Schultz and Derek Schultz; step-grandchildren, Sutton Schultz, Sawyer Schultz, Ebreanna Duffield, Jaidon Schultz and Brooklyn Schultz; sister, Debra Masek; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Terry and Jill Hemry, Stacy and Barry Terrell and Rodney and Leslie Hemry; Father-in-law, Wayne Hemry; and nieces and nephews, Gabi Masek, Josh Masek, Bryanna DeCarlo, Logan Hemry, Andrew Hemry, Mandy Monroe, Cory Monroe, Tyler Hemry, Leah Scholbrock, Hannah Smith, Courtney Romanco and Kylie Smith.
A Visitation will be held from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm on Sunday, February 15, 2026 at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home in Postville, Iowa. Celebration of life to be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank the Postville Ambulance Crew, the Emplify Health in West Union and the La Crosse Mayo Clinic Med Flight Crew for all the care given to James and the support given to the family.
Memorials may be made to the Postville Ambulance fund, Humane Society of Northeast Iowa, Heart Animal Rescue, and the American Heart Association. To honor Jim’s memory, the family encourages acts of kindness or donations to those not listed above that are meaningful to you.
