Lloyd M. Bigler

Lloyd M. Bigler, 92, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Waverly, passed away on May 28.
Lloyd was born on January 4, 1933, near Postville, the son of Muriel and Lloyd Bigler. He graduated from Postville High School in 1951. On September 20, 1953, Lloyd was united in marriage to Mavis Soeder. During their 69+ years of marriage, the family lived in Postville, Allison, Greene and Waverly. Lloyd served in the US Army from 1951-1953 in Virginia and France. Lloyd was an active member of Heritage Global Methodist Church.
Besides being a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, Lloyd had a spectacular professional career. After leaving the family farm in 1963, Lloyd began a 30-year career with the Northrup King (NK) Seed Corn Company. Lloyd spent the majority of those years managing sales dealers across 20 northeast Iowa counties. He was proud of his district’s 50 percent market share, which represented the most prolific NK district nationally. Lloyd also originated the concept of planting roadside seed corn plots, which allowed for the marketing of all seed varieties in a condensed location. In 1994, Lloyd was named the Corn Belt Agri Marketing Association Manager of the Year because of his development of the Load & Go Seed Handling System, which eliminated the use of large bulk seed bags. He was also named to the NK National Advisory Council on multiple occasions. After his retirement from NK, Lloyd went on to develop a national wire harness company, focusing on collector series models from Farmall and International Harvester.
Lloyd is survived by sons Mark of Davenport and Matthew (Kimberly) of Cedar Falls, daughter Lisa (Russell) Rupiper of Omaha, brother Michael (Melanie) of Euless, Texas, grandchildren Brad (Heather) Bigler of Marshall, Minnesota, Julie (Jeremy) Walker of Nashville, Tennessee, Alec and Adam McDermott of Omaha, Nebraska, Lauren (Andy) Artzner of Folsom, California, Megan (Adam) Sitzmann of Omaha, Nebraska, Quinn Bigler of Janesville, and Annie Bigler of Waterloo, along with 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mavis, daughter Lori McDermott, son-in-law Tim McDermott and great grandson Drake Bigler.
The Bigler family will greet family and friends at Heritage Global Methodist Church in Waverly from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 16, with a celebration of life immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Drake Bigler Endowment/SMSU Basketball, 1501 State Street, Marshall, MN 56258.
