Jaci Burns is the new store manager at Quillin’s

Jaci Burns, who has been a resident of the Postville area her entire life, has been named the new manager of the local Quillin’s Grocery Store. Although she had been working from home for years with the family trucking business, Jaci found herself getting bored when she and her husband, Craig sold their trucking business.

She said, “I really didn’t think I would be working in town. But, I knew I needed something to do.”

When she started at the store, Burns only agreed to work no more than 20 hours a week with no weekends or evenings.

She said, “That lasted for a few months and then in October I was offered the job of price manager. With the new job I was still only working during the day but was working five days a week.”

As the price manager, Jaci had to manager the sales. She said, “We have three sales going on at all times. One sale is listed on the ad information and there are also two in-store sales.”

She explained, “When Jesse (Moore) announced that he was leaving, I was offered the job of store manager. I really didn’t know what to do and I tossed it around in my mind for three months and worked with Jesse before he left.”

After deciding to take the job, Jaci has been very happy with her decision. She said, “I love my job. I know just about everyone who comes in the store. I get to see people and help them if they have a question. I love to visit with people from the community. We have 15 employees and we all work well together. I actually have to work every other weekend now, but it has been fine. I don’t mind it a bit.”

Duties, Jaci explained, include a little of everything. She said, “I order groceries, re-set the store as needed, do scheduling and hiring to name just  some of the things I do.”

Some of the sections of the store that Jaci said people might notice as new include a new store brand, “Best Choice.” She said, “We always have a save section in a specific aisle of the store. We carry lots of specific products for our ethnic population and we try to order things when individuals or groups ask for something different. Our deli, especially the chicken, remains very popular.”

When not busy at the store, Jaci and her husband, Craig, who is a hog buyer for Lynch Livestock, enjoy spending time with their three children, their spouses, and seven grandchildren. She added, “I love to fish and quilt. Quite a combination I know. They are my passion and therapy. I can stay out on the river all day even if the fish aren’t biting.”

She went on, “I have made quilts for all the kids and grandkids. I don’t sell them as I think that would take the fun out of it.”

She concluded by saying, “Please stop in the store and say hi and see what we have to offer. If you can’t find something, ask. We can probably get it for you.”

Store hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and Sundays 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
