Mary was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, IA. There is where she participated in WELCA, various standing committees and was a Sunday School teacher. With generosity she was always willing to help others in need.

She had a passion for animals and enjoyed tending to her miniature horses, chickens and cats. She also fed all the baby calves born on the dairy farm. Mary's younger years found her working in the yard gardening or inside propagating her African violets. Her other interests would be curling up with a book or an embroidery project for a family member such as a quilt or wall hanging. Her ultimate joy was spending time babysitting her grandchildren. She never missed any family events when her health allowed.
