Larry Olson

Larry Allen Olson, the son of Milton and Donna Mae Olson, was born July 8th, 1953. He passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 15, 2022. He was 69 years old.

Larry graduated from Postville High School in 1971. He married his high school sweetheart Cindy Winters on July 1st, 1972 at Frankville Presbyterian Church. To this union two children were born, Heather and Jarrod. Larry and Cindy had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past summer.

Larry’s gruff exterior quickly faded away to those who knew him best. To those that knew him well he was the kindest, most generous man. His big heart and funny sense of humor brought joy to those in his life. He loved spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren.

Larry was a lifelong dairy and crop farmer. He started farming right out of high school with his father Milton and eventually purchased the family farm from him. He believed strongly in soil conservation and worked hard to preserve the land for future generations.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Margaret Carlson, and a brother-in-law, Jim Hutchison.

Surviving are his wife Cindy, of Gunder, his children, Heather Scannell (Dan) of Cedar Falls, and Jarrod Olson (Kelli) of Waukon, three grandchildren, Anna Grace Scannell and Adalyn and Jase Olson, 3 brothers, Jerry Olson (Diana) of Ossian, Mick Olson (Mary) of Swisher, Jim Olson (Lynn) of Gunder, 2 sisters, Connie Olson of Douglas, AK, and Donna Flannigan (Ron) of Virginia, MN, brother-in-law, Mark Carlson of Anchorage, AK and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder, Iowa.

Funeral Service will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 21, 2022 at Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder, Iowa with Pastor Marshall Hahn as the officiant.
