Diane Elinor Wirkler

Diane Elinor (Robertson) Wirkler, 74, formerly of Luana died Sunday, August 29, 2021 at the Elkader Care Center after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Diane was born October 30, 1946 to Cecil and Dorothy (Nymeyer) Robertson in Iowa Falls and grew up on a farm near Williams. She graduated from Northeast Hamilton High School in Blairsburg in 1964. She then received her bachelor’s and master’s degree in music education from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Diane taught in the Gladbrook and Postville Community Schools until retiring in 2010. Diane was united in marriage with Neil Wirkler on September 16, 1988 and resided on a farm near Luana.

In retirement, Diane enjoyed reading, a variety of creative home projects, researching family history and regularly volunteered at the Monona Historical Museum. She loved cats and hamburgers, especially Pete’s.

Diane is survived by her brother, Steve (Glenda) Robertson of Delhi; brother-in-law, John (Cindy) Wirkler of Marshalltown; sister-in-law, Lavon Wirkler of Arlington, Texas and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Neil Wirkler; parents, Cecil and Dorothy Robertson; and a brother-in-law, Allyn Wirkler.

Funeral Service will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 3, 2021 at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Postville, Iowa.

Burial will follow at the Postville Cemetery in Postville, Iowa.

Masks and social distancing are recommended.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to Postville High School Dollars for Scholars.
