Candidates sought for upcoming City Election

The City of Postville is currently seeking candidates for mayor and city council.

The filing period for these positions opens Monday, Aug. 25, with papers due to the County Auditor by Thursday, Sept. 18.

Both the mayor and city council members serve four-year terms. This year, two city council seats and the mayoral seat are up for election. 

In order to hold office in the city, a candidate must be an eligible elector, meaning the same qualifications to vote. They also must be a resident of the city in which they plan to serve. 

Nomination papers are available at City Hall. Nominees must obtain at least 10 eligible signatures. 

The City of Postville conducts business on the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m., with additional work sessions and special meetings when necessary. Council members are also assigned to various city committees.
