Winter experiences the trip of a lifetime when he travels to Washington D. C. on an Honor Flight

Marvin Winter, longtime Postville resident and retired REC employee, had the thrill of lifetime recently when he was able to experience an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Winter, who was accompanied by his son, Mike, who served as his guardian, flew out of the Quad Cities, specifically the Moline Airport on October 25. A Korean War veteran, Winter is an Air Force veteran.

He said, “My son, Mike lives in the Quad Cities area and made all the arrangements. Although I was the only person from Northeast Iowa on the flight, there were 167 on the plane and we were all treated like royalty. The flight consisted of World War II, Korean War and Vietnam veterans and their guardians. From the food to the welcomes we received everything was perfect. We were given four box lunches which were excellent. Nobody went hungry.”

When the plane landed in Washington, D. C. they were greeted by a group of elementary students from the area who had posters and were cheering for them. Winter noted that there was also a band there to welcome them to the Nation’s Capital.
