Prosperous Ridge Club celebrates 90th anniversary

Prosperous Ridge women’s club, which held its first meeting June 17, 1926, gathered at East Park Terrace last Saturday, July 16 to celebrate the organization’s 90th anniversary. With husbands and former members as their guests, the women hosted a potluck supper and reminisced about the club’s beginning and its history.

As was the custom in the early part of the 20th century, women in country neighborhoods gathered for sociability and study. The neighborhood women who lived southeast of Postville, many along the Gunder Road, aptly named their club Prosperous Ridge.

The first meeting of the club was held at the home of Mrs. William Baltz. Along with Mrs. Baltz, other charter members were Mrs. Louie Bigler, Mrs Henry Bigler, Mrs. Victor Casten, Mrs. Ben Erickson, Mrs,. Anston Helgerson, Mrs Ed McNeil, Mrs. Cevert Meyer, Mrs. Sophie Meyer, Mrs. Joseph Olson, Mrs. Ella Renzmann, Mrs. Bernard Waters, Mrs. Leonard Waters, Mrs. Lawrence Welzel, Mrs. Robert Welzel. Mrs. Ed Nuehring and Mrs. Enock Mork joined the club at the September meeting.
