Pirates fall to Central of Elkader to end their season with an 11-11 record

The Pirates ended their season Thursday evening as they fell in the first round of tournament action to Central Elkader by a score of 42-32. Elkader led 17-14 at the half but a strong third quarter would give them the a big lead that the Pirates were unable to overcome. The game was played in the Pirate gym.

Coach Mike Sass said, “The game started out pretty well for us. We got a couple of easy buckets which is what we needed but soon our offense dried up. We wanted to try to turn them over and get some easy buckets. We were not as successful at that as we needed to be to win. We wanted to be patient on offense and take good shots. I thought we took good shots, but they would not go in. We did not shoot well and we turned the ball over too much which prevented us from getting the lead. Because of that, we were not able to put up the points we needed. I thought we got good looks but were not able to make many shots.”

About the team’s defense, Sass said, “Our defense was okay. I thought we rebounded well and did some good things on defense especially in the fourth quarter.” After allowing 18 points in the third quarter, the Pirates held Central to seven in the fourth and out-scored them 10-7 to end the game.

With the loss the Pirates ended their season with an 11-11 record.
