Pirates defeat Central in overtime to secure first round tournament win

The Pirate boys began the tournament trail in Elkader last Thursday night as they faced the Warriors of Central. Ready to avenge two earlier losses, the Postville team would not be denied. Although they got off to a slow start and were trailing 11-17 after the first quarter, they ended up winning in overtime by four points, 56-52.

Coach Mike Sass said, “We did not start out as fast as we have been doing lately. Giving up 17 points in the first quarter is not the way we like to begin. It is never easy coming from behind.”

The Pirates played the entire game with seven players as the usual starters Evan Jacobson, Ben Lenth, Tanner Jacobsen, Trevar Benson and Owen Jacobson were on the court when the game began and Mason Smith and Logan Radloff came in off the bench.
