Pirate wrestlers open season at home and finish second in the Jesup tournament on Saturday

The wrestlers opened the season at home with duals against Oelwein, Waukon and Nashua-Plainfield. Assistant coach Bobby Schultz said, “We went 1-2. We beat Nashua Plainfield, lost to Oelwein and Waukon. Waukon was a fairly close dual as well. It was great to get a win at home. The guys came through and got the pins where we needed them. Roberto Lopez got a pin and sort of got the momentum going and the guys built off it and kept things rolling. Mac Hughes and Uvaldo Camarillo went 3-0 on the night. Lopez and Raymond Reinhardt went a combined 3-0 at heavyweight. They both had pins on the night.

at Oelwein

Thursday night the Pirates traveled to Oelwein where they faced Oelwein and  Ed-Co. Coach Schultz said, “We improved in a few matches against Oelwein. Spain showed  a huge improvement even though he lost by two. He had an opportunity and it just slipped by. But it was a 15 point match on Tuesday and the final score at Oelwein was12-10. The team score was 51-20.”

The Pirates have a busy week coming up. Thursday they head to North Linn with wrestling starting at 5 p.m. and will wrestle three or four duals. Saturday they head to Nashua for a Varsity and JV Tournament. The start time has not been announced. Next Monday, December 12 there is a JV Tournament in Postville. Start time will be 4:30 p.m. in the high school gym. Tuesday, December 13 they head to Ed-Co for three duals starting at 5:30 p.m.
