Pirate boys open the season with wins against Starmont and West Central

(Editor’s Note: Congrats to Coach Mike Sass and his wife, Kari on the birth of their daughter, Quinn Marie as she is welcomed into the Pirate family.)

at Waukon

The Pirates opened the season last week at Waukon where they lost to the larger and more experienced Indian team by a score of  43 to76. Starters for the Pirates were Owen Jacobson, Nash Reicks, Aboody Abdullahi, Blake Wettleson and Jacob Steffans. Avery Enyart, Nick Jacobs and Abdikani Osman came in off the bench.

at Starmont

Tuesday the Pirates traveled to Starmont where they got their first win as they defeated the Stars, 52 to 43. Starters were Jacobson, Steffans, Wettleson, Reicks and Aboody. Jacobs, Enyart and Harrison Dehning came in off the bench.

at West Central

(Editor’s Note: This game was coached by Assistant Coach Aandi Deering as Coach Sass was busy welcoming his new daughter)

The Pirates traveled to Maynard to face West Central over the weekend and came away with the 55-42 win. Starters on the court were Jacob Steffans, Owen Jacobson, Blake Wettleson, Nash Reicks, and Aboody Abdullahi. Acting head  coach Aandi Deering said, “Everyone came off the bench and had a positive role in the outcome of the game.”

This week the Pirates were slated to host Kee High on Tuesday at home and will also be at home on Friday as they play Turkey Valley.
