Pirate baseball team opens season this week with four returning letter winners

The Postville Pirates are gearing up to take the field this week as the 2016 baseball season gets underway. The Pirate head coach is Luke Steege and Corey Smock is the assistant and the junior varsity coach.

Although the team’s pitching staff is not real deep, top pitcher Mac Hughes is returning this year. Coach Steege added, “Our outfield should be pretty good. We will have two seniors and a junior in the outfield which should be helpful. The infield will be very young and we are still waiting to see how these young players develop.”

Along with Hughes, returning letter winners are Nash Reicks, Aaron Swartzendruber and Gavin Ruckdaschel. The coach said, “We are looking to Hughes, Swartzendruber and Ruckdaschel to be our team leaders.”
