Pat Malanaphy, Chaplain at Postville Good Samaritan Center, provides spiritual and grief support

Pat Malanaphy, who has been employed by the Good Samaritan Society, Postville Center since the beginning of the year, serves as the Chaplain for staff and residents.

While explaining his training and duties as chaplain, Pat said, “I am an ordained Catholic Deacon. In that capacity my wife, Pam and I spent four and a half years with two full Saturdays  per month going to classes. Some of the classes were on Old Testament or New Testament and exploring individual books of the Bible. I have also taken classes from NICC, such as disabilities, juvenile justice, psychology, counseling and writing.”

Malanaphy, whose days at the Center begin around 7:30 a.m. said, “I usually work mornings for up to two hours. I spend a little extra time with residents as I help them get to and from breakfast or supper. I also spend time with the residents who may need a more focused visit.”
