Man accused of robbing Calmar Bank apprehended Wednesday afternoon

State Bank in Calmar was robbed at about 10:30 a.m.  last Tuesday, May 12. Winneshiek law officials received a report that a bald black man with gray stubble  robbed the bank and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Tyrone Wilson, 48, of Postville has been charged in the crime.

Sheriff’s officer Dan Marx reported that no weapon was displayed during the incident. No injuries were reported and there were about five people in the bank at the time of the robbery.

Search warrants were conducted at a Calmar residence and at Wilson’s residence in Postville Tuesday afternoon, but the suspect wasn’t found.

 

Postville Community Schools, along with the day care and the Good Samaritan Society and South Winneshiek Schools were placed on lock down for part of the day on Tuesday. A portion of Lybrand Street was also closed during the search.

Wilson, the man charged in connection with the Tuesday morning robbery of State Bank in Calmar was apprehended without incident in Rock Island, Ill. Wednesday afternoon.

He is now in the custody of law enforcement officials. 

“The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s office would like to thank the public for their cooperation and assistance with this case. The Sheriff’s office and Calmar Police Department would also like to thank the multiple law enforcement agencies who assisted throughout the investigation,” said a statement from the Sheriff’s office. 

Before being apprehended, Wilson was last seen in Calmar around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning about the same time as the robbery at State Bank, 102 W. Main St. At about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, law enforcement received a report that a man had robbed the bank and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
