Following closed session, City Council hires Matt Ellis as new Chief of Police

After spending 70 minutes in closed session, the Postville  City Council approved hiring a new Chief of Police effective  June 1st. After interviewing both candidates, Sgt. Ted Jacobsen and Matt Ellis, the Council came out of closed session and made their recommendation.

While making the recommendation, Council person Ross Malcom said, “This is on of the hardest decisions we, as a Council, have had to make. Both candidates would be excellent for the job. With that being said, I make a motion that we hire Matt Ellis as the Chief of Police for the City of Postville.”

The motion was seconded by Mary Straate and on a roll call vote Ellis was hired on a 3-2 margin with Council persons Larry Moore and Don Miller casting the dissenting votes.”
