Fire Department open house held last week
The Postville Fire Department hosted an open house in honor of Fire Prevention Week last Thursday at the fire station. Several hundred guests were treated to a meal of turkey tenders, maid-rites, potato salad, cake and beverages.
Guests also were able to register for door prizes as they interacted with firefighters.
Those attending were encouraged to take lanyards, key chains and other fire safety information.
Several door prizes were also given away.
Smokey the Bear made a special guest appearance at the Open House as well.
Free will donations were accepted to kick off the local department’s annual fund drive as guests could drop their donations into a box provided for that purpose.
As community members reflect on last week’s activities, they should remember that fire escapes save lives and every family should have an alternate escape route when they are faced with a fire or any home disaster.
Also during Fire Prevention week, children in preschool and first grade were given tours of the fire station and equipment. Kindergarten students were given rides on the fire trucks as well.
