Final quarter of 2016 reviewed

(Editor’s Note: As is our custom at the Herald, at the end of each year we review the top news stories and events of the year. This week we are looking at events that occurred in October, November and December of 2016.)

October

The Postville Fire Department was called to a fire on the Stan Martins farm west of Postville to fight a fire that had consumed their 36 x 64 barn which was full of hay. The structure was a complete loss. Assisting the Postville Fire Department were firefighters from Castalia, Clermont and Luana.

November

Area quilters have participating in the Quilts of Valor program for deserving veterans. Mike and Barb Krambeer designated their Thrivent dollars to help fund the project. Area quilters include Rita Anderson, Linda Hughes, Cindy Berns, Sandy Koenig, Jane Blumhagen, Madonna Stumme, Barb Gericke, Dorothy Suckow, Kathy Linderbaum, Betty Foels an Barb Burns.

Construction for the NEIT fiber optic network in Postville is near completion and hook-up will begin soon.
