Despite losses to MFL MarMac and South Winn, coach sees many improvements in girls’ play

The volleyball team played MFL MarMac August 31 and, although they lost in three, Coach Angela Adney saw many positives in the girls’ performances.

She said, “MFL MarMac was a highly competitive team yet I was so impressed with our girls’ attitudes on the court. They did not let even one play bring down their energy level as they played every ball to the whistle. This is the type of volleyball that is fun to watch and this is by far the best volleyball I have seen these girls play yet this season. We focussed a great deal on working together as a team tonight and having a plan for every set.”

The scores were 14-25, 12-25 and 12-25.

South Winn

Thursday, Sept. 7 the girls played South Winn in another hard-fought battle. The scores were 22-25, 20-25 and 15-25 against the undefeated Warriors.

Coach Adney said, “The girls started out strong with high energy and determination. We had the lead going into the last few points of the first game but we got tripped up by a strong South Winn server. The second game was a battle as the score stayed close and the girls did a good job of working together and hustling after the ball. By the third game, however, the girls started to lose their motivation as South Winn began to take the lead.”

This week the girls play in a tournament at Waukon on Saturday and next Thursday, September 21 they play at West Central.
