Benefit being held for Jade Lansing this Sunday at St. Bridget Catholic Church

Jade Lansing, a 2017 graduate of Postville High School and the daughter of Glen and Angie Lansing, was severely injured in an automobile accident west of Postville on December 17, 2017.

At the time of the accident she was studying radiology technology at NIACC and was working part-time at the Good Samaritan Society, Postville Center. She was also a lifeguard and swimming instructor at Hall Roberts’ Swimming Pool and at the YMCA.

As a result of the accident she suffered a spinal cord injury to her T8. She was initially a patient at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and later transferred to St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. She was able to return home to Postville on February 19.

The accident has left her without the use of her lower body from the waist down, requiring her to be in a wheelchair. Currently, she is living at home with her parents and three younger siblings.

With college on hold for the time being, she attends occupational and physical therapy five days a week in Decorah. She goes three days each week to the Euro Team Center and two days to the Winneshiek Medical Center.

Her family and friends are very impressed with her hard work as she is very determined to make the best of the situation. She has set a goal of being able to return to school in the fall of 2018.

A benefit is being held this Sunday, April 22 to help defray the costs of Jade’s medical, physical and/or living expenses and needs so that she can hopefully meet the goals she has set for herself.

The day’s events will begin with a 10:30 a.m. Mass which is open to people of all faiths at St. Bridget Catholic Church. Following the church service, there will be a full meal and silent auction also at St. Bridget.

The menu includes pork loin, baked beans, assorted salads and desserts all for a free will donation.

A large number of silent auction items have been donated  with more still coming in. Anyone wishing to make a donation, may contact Linda Plaht at 563-864-7750 or Cindy Berns at 563-864-3824 who are the silent auction chair persons. Items will be on display at the church during the benefit.

Jade said, “My family, faith, friends and boyfriend and the entire community have helped me very much as I go through this transitional period. I am very thankful for the love and support everyone has offered me during this time. I am hoping people will come and visit with me during the benefit. so I can thank them in person.”
