Although she struggles daily with Cystic Fibrosis, Postville fifth grader leads normal, active life

Ten year old Lily Gormly Broszeit is an active fifth grader who love to read, especially the Harry Potter series. However, sometimes Lily’s energy level is stifled due to the fact that she battles Cystic Fibrosis. Diagnosed at 14 months of age, the disease affects Lily’s lungs and digestive system. Lily is among the over 30,000 children and adults in the United States who struggle with this disease daily.

Lily was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) when her family noticed several symptoms, including salty-tasting skin, slow growth and poor weight gain despite normal food intake. She also had chest infections and coughing spells as a baby and toddler.

Lily’s mom, Kristina Broszeit explained, “Cystic Fibrosis is caused by a defective gene that makes the body produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life threatening infections.”
